Abstract: One of the key developments in the fifth-generation (5G) networks is the adoption of service-based architecture (SBA) at the core network. In such model, various connectivity requests are processed separately with different KPI considering end-user type and requested service. To enable such slicing, logic networks are employed to overly traffic between front-end BTS that is engaged with connected user at the RAN side and the related application server at the core network side. However, stretching the logic network over multi-technologies and sites incurs additional time-delays that reduce the value of the SBA solution. In this talk, we explore new scenarios for E2E network slicing that meet the key performance requirements for 5G networks. The given solutions explore the opportunities offered through new IEEE 5G standards as well as native cloud deployments. The talk will also review the security challenges for operating the core network in 3rd party clouds and what could be the best solutions to improve service residency against cyber-attacks. Biography: Dr Anwer Al-Dulaimi (M’11, SM’17) received the PhD degree in electronic and computer engineering from Brunel University London, Uxbridge, U.K., in 2012, after obtaining BSc and MSc honor degrees in communication engineering. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada. Currently, he is a technical Product Owner (TPO) in the Center of Excellence (R&D) at EXFO Inc., Montreal Canada. His research interests include 5G networks, cloud networks, V2X and Internet of Things. He is the chair of the IEEE 1932.1 Working Group “Standard for Licensed/Unli¬censed Spectrum Interoperability in Wireless Mobile Network” and IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. He is a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), Associate Fellow of the British higher educa¬tion Academy (AFHEA), and registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) by the British Engineering Council. Dr. Al-Dulaimi is the editor of IEEE 5G Future Networks Series in IEEE Vehicular Technology magazine, Editor of Vehicular Networking Series in IEEE Standards Magazine, AE of IEEE Communications Magazine, and guest editor in many IEEE journals. He was the recipient of the 2013 Worldwide Universities Network Cognitive Communications Consortium best paper for outstanding research in cognitive communications for his book entitled “Self-Organization and Green Applications in Cognitive Radio Networks.”
