Title: Backhaul Limited Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) Transmission. Speaker: Jarkko Kaleva University of Oulu Finland Abstract : Coordinated multi-point (CoMP) joint beamforming techniques have been proposed as prominent techniques to overcome the increased spectral efficiency requirements of the future wireless networks. This talk focuses on the backhaul limitations in CoMP systems, and how to take into account these limitations in the joint beamformer design. The backhaul limitations are approached from two different perspectives. Decentralized sum rate maximizing beamformer design is proposed with low signaling overhead to reduce the overall control overhead in the backhaul network. This design extends the popular weighted minimum MSE beamforming to joint processing and proposes a novel decentralized processing technique to reduce the signaling overhead. Clustering designs are proposed for systems with strict backhaul limitations in terms number of served users per BS. For the clustering problem, two designs are proposed. The first one is based on alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) that separates the beamformer design and user allocation into separate tractable complexity subproblems. The second approach is based on more popular reweighted L1-norm technique, where the combinatorial backhaul constraints are iteratively approximated by weighted L1-norm.
