COMSYS TALK : « Optical Communication: From an Optical Fiber to Optical Networks "

-
Communication systems

Date: -
Location: Eurecom

Abstract: Since 1970s, optical fiber has been deployed in communication systems. After decades of deployment, optical fiber has become inseparable from our daily lives, from short reach to long-haul transmission. For instance, fiber to the home, core networks, and data center interconnect, optical fiber as an optical waveguide has exerted its advantages of high capacity, low latency and stability. In this talk, we will review the history of optical communication and introduce the modern optical communication systems. This talk also covers optics and photonics, which appeals to those interested in physics. Short bio: Chenyu is currently with the Optical Communication Technology Lab of Huawei Paris Research Center as a Cifre PhD engineer, and working towards his Ph.D. degree at EURECOM, Sorbonne Université, France. He received the B.Eng. degree in optoelectronics information science and technology from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in 2020, and the Engineer’s Degree(Dipl. Ing./ M.Sc.Eng.) in optical engineering from Institut d’Optique Graduate School (IOGS), Palaiseau, France, in 2022, and the Master degree in optical networks and photonic systems from Université Paris-Saclay, France, in 2022. His research interests include optical communications, optical networks, automation, and AI.
