Good luck to the two Ph.D. students, both from the Communication Systems Department: George ARVANITAKIS (supervised by Florian Kaltenberger) and Xiwen JIANG (also supervised by F. Kaltenberger), who will be supporting their theses on September 27 and October 4, 2017, respectively.

George VANITAKIS's Ph.D. thesis is entitled "Analytical Modeling for Flow-level Performance of Randomly Placed Wireless Networks" and Xiwen JIANG's "Massive MIMO: turning concept into reality by exploiting the channel reciprocity".

From September 5 to 8th, 2017, the XXVIth GRETSI Colloquium will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Juan les Pins. In addition to the Lagrange and I3S laboratories, INRIA and EURECOM also participate in its organization, with the help of professors Jean-Luc DUGELAY and Nick EVANS.
This is an anniversary colloquium, since the GRETSI conference, the main French-speaking conference for the vast community of signal and image processing, will celebrate its 50th anniversary (1967-2017). Organized for the first time in 1967, this conference is the oldest regular event in the field.

They won for the 3rd time the Open Knowledge Extraction Challenge Award, with their paper entitled "ADEL @ OKE 2017: A generic method for indexing knowlege bases for entity linking" during the ESWC 2017 conference, 14th European Semantic Web Conference, Open Extraction Challenge, 28th May-1st June 2017, Portoroz, Slovenia.

Congratulations to David Gesbert, from the Communication Systems Department for his Best Paper Award, obtained by the article: "Performance of mobile networks with UAVs: Can flying base stations substitute ultra-dense small cells?" Received on 17 May 2017 in Dresden, during EW 2017, 23rd European Wireless Conference. This article, written in collaboration with Zdenek Becvar of the CTU of prague, rewards the work on drones used in "Beyond 5G".
