Good luck to the two Ph.D. students, both from the Communication Systems Department: George ARVANITAKIS (supervised by Florian Kaltenberger) and Xiwen JIANG (also supervised by F. Kaltenberger), who will be supporting their theses on September 27 and October 4, 2017, respectively.

George VANITAKIS's Ph.D. thesis is entitled "Analytical Modeling for Flow-level Performance of Randomly Placed Wireless Networks" and Xiwen JIANG's "Massive MIMO: turning concept into reality by exploiting the channel reciprocity".

On Monday 25th September 2017, EURECOM welcomed its new 2019 engineer promotion, 166 new students from 24 different countries! The biggest promo since the creation of EURECOM!

Good luck to Merve SAHIN of the Digital Security Department, supervised by Prof. Aurélien Francillon, who will publicly support her doctoral thesis: “Understanding telephony fraud as an essential step to better fight it”, on Thursday 21 September at 14:00 at EURECOM. This is the 8th PhD Thesis defended at EURECOM in 2017.

From September 5 to 8th, 2017, the XXVIth GRETSI Colloquium will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Juan les Pins. In addition to the Lagrange and I3S laboratories, INRIA and EURECOM also participate in its organization, with the help of professors Jean-Luc DUGELAY and Nick EVANS.
This is an anniversary colloquium, since the GRETSI conference, the main French-speaking conference for the vast community of signal and image processing, will celebrate its 50th anniversary (1967-2017). Organized for the first time in 1967, this conference is the oldest regular event in the field.

On Monday, 4th of September, three weeks before its official start (September 25th, 2017), EURECOM will host many foreign students for intensive French courses! The internship brings together students of various nationalities. They discover the campus and then feel more at ease for the real return. That's an undeniable factor of integration!

Good luck to Zeineb ZHIOUA from the Digital Security Department, supervised by Yves ROUDIER, who will publicly support her doctoral thesis on September 8th, 2017 at 10am. Her thesis is about "Specification and Automatic Verification of Security Guidelines for Program Certification".

The 25th EURECOM Engineer Promotion will be honored on Saturday 23rd September 2017, at the diploma ceremony, mentored by Monaco Government and under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness the Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Congratulations to the team consisting of Julien Plu, Raphaël Troncy, and Giuseppe Rizzo. They won for the 3rd time the Open Knowledge Extraction Challenge Award, with their paper entitled "ADEL @ OKE 2017: A generic method for indexing knowlege bases for entity linking" during the ESWC 2017 conference, 14th European Semantic Web Conference, Open Extraction Challenge, 28th May-1st June 2017, Portoroz, Slovenia.

He's been awarded the 2017 IEEE FRED W ELLERSICK PRIZE for his paper : "Cache in the air: exploiting content caching and delivery techniques for 5G systems". (Published in: IEEE Communications Magazine (Volume: 52, Issue: 2, February 2014).

Congratulations to David Gesbert, from the Communication Systems Department for his Best Paper Award, obtained by the article: "Performance of mobile networks with UAVs: Can flying base stations substitute ultra-dense small cells?" Received on 17 May 2017 in Dresden, during EW 2017, 23rd European Wireless Conference. This article, written in collaboration with Zdenek Becvar of the CTU of prague, rewards the work on drones used in "Beyond 5G".
