Congratulations to the team consisting of Julien Plu, Raphaël Troncy, and Giuseppe Rizzo. They won for the 3rd time the Open Knowledge Extraction Challenge Award, with their paper entitled "ADEL @ OKE 2017: A generic method for indexing knowlege bases for entity linking" during the ESWC 2017 conference, 14th European Semantic Web Conference, Open Extraction Challenge, 28th May-1st June 2017, Portoroz, Slovenia.

He's been awarded the 2017 IEEE FRED W ELLERSICK PRIZE for his paper : "Cache in the air: exploiting content caching and delivery techniques for 5G systems". (Published in: IEEE Communications Magazine (Volume: 52, Issue: 2, February 2014).

Congratulations to David Gesbert, from the Communication Systems Department for his Best Paper Award, obtained by the article: "Performance of mobile networks with UAVs: Can flying base stations substitute ultra-dense small cells?" Received on 17 May 2017 in Dresden, during EW 2017, 23rd European Wireless Conference. This article, written in collaboration with Zdenek Becvar of the CTU of prague, rewards the work on drones used in "Beyond 5G".

From July 24th-26th, 2017, EURECOM will host the 1st Summer School on the theme of Human Factors Aspects of Cooperative Systems Design organized by IMT and TUM.
The Summer School will be the opportunity for PhD students and researchers to present the different approaches to research on the subject, methods and results.
A call for contributions was launched.
The Summer School is part of the Franco-German Academy for Industry of the Future, a cooperation between TU München and IMT, and is supported by the Franco-German University (UFA- DFH).

Congratulations to Onur Catakoglu and Davide Balzarotti, of the Digital Security Department for their Best Paper Award, for their article "Attacks in the dark side of the web" received on April 4, 2017 in Marrakech during SAC 2017, 32nd Annual ACM SIGAPP Symposium on Applied Computing.

Congratulations to the two new PhDs Paolo VIOTTI (Data Science Department, supervised by Marko VUKOLIC) and Yongchao TIAN (also from the Data Science Department, supervised by Marko VUKOLIC and Pietro MICHIARDI) who brilliantly defended their theses on April 6th and 7th, 2017.
Paolo VIOTTI's PhD topic was “Consistency in Distributed Storage Systems: Theoretical Foundations with Applications to Cloud Storage” and  Yongchao TIAN was “Accelerating Data Preparation for Big Data Analytics”.
These are the first theses defended in 2017 at EURECOM!

Congratulations to Melek Önen, researcher in the "Digital Security Department" for his HDR (french appellation for "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches") defended on January 12th, 2017, on the following subject of  "Security and Privacy for Emerging Technologies".

The Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches "sanctions the recognition of the high scientific level of the candidate, the original character of his approach in a field of science, its ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad science or technology and its capacity to supervise young researchers. "

Petros Elia, Professor in the Communication Systems Dept. has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant for his project DUALITY.  A project that
aims to revolutionize the way wireless networks are working.

The jury of the "Etoiles de l'Europe 2016" awarded a Star to Pietro Michiardi for the BIGFOOT project which he coordinated.
The "Etoiles de l'Europe 2016" award ceremony took place on December 5, 2016, at the musée du quai Branly (Paris), in the presence of Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research and Thierry Mandon, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research.
