Congratulations to the two new PhDs Robin Rajan THOMAS (Department of Communication Systems, supervised by Raymond KNOPP) and Nikolaos SAPOUNTZIS (also from the Communication Systems Department, supervised by Thrasyvoulos SPYROPOULOS) who brilliantly defended their theses on December 9th and 14th, 2016.

 

Robin Rajan's PhD topic was "Higher-order MIMO Detection and Half-Duplex Relay Strategies for 4G+ and 5G Networks" and Nikolaos's "Network Layer Optimization for Next Generation Heterogeneous Networks".

 

These are the 10th and 11th theses defended in 2016 at EURECOM!

Congratulations to Patrick Loiseau, Assistant-Professor in the Department "Data Science" for his HDR (french appellation for "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches") defended on December 8th, 2016, on the following subject of "Combining game theory and statistical learning for security, privacy and network systems".

 

The Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches "sanctions the recognition of the high scientific level of the candidate, the original character of his approach in a field of science, its ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad science or technology and its capacity to supervise young researchers. "

Congratulations to the team of Jose Patino, Héctor Delgado, Nicholas Evans and Xavier Anguera (ELSA, Corp), winners of the ALBAYZIN 2016 Speaker Diarization Evaluation Campaign. This award, sponsored by Cirrus Logic, was given during IberSpeech 2016 (23-25 November 2016, Lisbon, Portugal). The Albayzin evaluation campaigns are organized every two years by the Spanish Thematic Network on Speech Technology (RTTH) and the ISCA Special Interest Group on Iberian Languages (IG-IL).

The 15th CARDIS (Smart Card Research and Advanced Application Conference) organized by EURECOM, will be held from November 7 to 9, 2016 at the Hôtel Gray d'Albion Barrière of Cannes. The Prof. Aurélien Francillon, from the Digital Security Department of EURECOM, was appointed General Chair of the event. 82 people are expected in Cannes. And this year, LightCrypto (Workshop on the "low energy / power / latency cryptography") will be jointly organized with CARDIS from November 9-10, 2016.

Congratulations to Han Xiao, PhD CIFRE Orange, supervised by David Balzarotti, which received the ACM Europe Student Best Paper Award for his paper entitled "PhishEye: Live monitoring of sandboxed phishing kits" obtained during the CCS Conference 2016 (24 to 28 October 2016 in Vienna, Austria). This is the 11th award of the year 2016 for EURECOM!

Congratulations to two new doctors Panagiotis MATZAKOS (Communication Systems Department, supervised by Christian Bonnet) and Giovanni SOLDI (Department of Digital Security, supervised by Nick Evans) who successfully defended their theses this Monday, October 24, 2016.

The subject of doctoral Panagiotis was entitled "Scheduling and Congestion Management Policies for QoS Provision in Disruption Tolerant Networks," and that of Giovanni: "On-line speaker diarization for smart objects."

These are the 8th and 9th theses in 2016 EURECOM!

Best poster Orange labs Award for a EURECOM Phd student

Grigory Antipov, an Orange CIFRE PhD, supervised by Jean-Luc Dugelay, received during October 5th, 2016, from the Orange Executive, the prize for the Best Orange poster.
His poster was called "Deep learning for estimating human traits."

Each year, the Orange direction pre-selects twenty doctoral candidates for this annual internal doctoral day and awards a prize for the Best poster. This year it is Grigory Antipov who won, and he had already received a "Best Paper Award" and a "1st Place Award" during last summer. Congratulations!

Summer School on Spectrum Aggregation and Sharing for 5G Networks at EURECOM

The Summer School on Spectrum Aggregation and Sharing for 5G Networks (SSSAS5G) will take place at EURECOM from October 17-19, 2016. The School follows the success of a previous EURACON school (WaveNAT5) organized at EURECOM in September 2015; Attendees will be exposed both to theoretical and demo sessions. Furthermore, standardization aspects will be highlighted in an industry talk. This School brings together experts from the field of Spectrum Aggregation and Sharing. The presenters are partners from 3 ongoing European projects: ADEL, SPEED5G, and SOLDER. Moreover 3 Keynote speakers from EURECOM will present some lectures (David Gesbert and Paul de Kerret, but also Florian Kaltenberger).
