A "Polarity Detection" Award at EURECOM

Congratulations to "Efstratios Sygkounas; Xiang Lei Li; Giuseppe Rizzo & Raphaël Troncy" who have been awarded the "Polarity Detection" Award by the jury of ESWC 2016. They won the Semantic Sentiment Analysis Challenge with their article called "The Sentime System at the SSA challenge Task 1".

The 13th European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC) took place in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, during May 29th to June 2nd, 2016. You can also have a look to the slides of their approach here

Congratulations to the new Dr. Monir AZRAOUI, of the Digital Security Department (supervised by Refik Molva and Melek Önen) who successfully defended his thesis on June 7th, 2016!
His PhD topic was the "Verifiability and Accountability in the Cloud". It is the sixth PhD thesis of the year at EURECOM.

Prof Maurizio Filippone has been awarded a prestigious AXA Chair position

Prof Maurizio Filippone has been awarded a prestigious AXA Chair position for the duration of 7 years from the AXA Research Fund. The AXA Chair project “New Computational Approaches to Risk Modeling” proposes contributions of foundational character at the interface between computational and statistical sciences to address the challenges associated with the quantification of risk in environmental and life sciences. The contribution from the AXA Research Fund will enable the creation of a research team around these topics."

EURECOM is glad to welcome a new professor in the Communication Systems Dept. : Adlen KSENTINI who is arrived on March, 1st! 

Adlen Ksentini, 39 years old, was an Associate Professor at the University of Rennes 1, France. He was a member of the INRIA Rennes team Dionysos. He received a M.Sc. in telecommunication and multimedia networking from the University of Versailles.  
He obtained his Ph.D. degree in computer science from  the University of Cergy-Pontoise in 2005, with a dissertation on "QoS  provisioning in IEEE 802.11-based networks”.
His themes of specialization are: Multimedia content delivery, Network architectures and protocols, QoS, QoE. He is also IEEE Senior Member.

Excellent mention for the final review of the COLOMBO project

Mention "Excellent" awarded from the auditors of the European Commission for the project COLOMBO to Jérôme Härri and the team "Wireless Systems and Protocols" from EURECOM. 

In this project, Urban Traffic Control systems (UTC) aims at enabling safe and efficient passing of the ever increasing road traffic flows at intersections and elsewhere. 

EURECOM and its partners (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (coordinator), the Università di Bologna, University of Brussels, PEEK TRAFFIC BV, Technische Universität Graz, provided for 3 years their skills and expertise to the project which was finished on 31 October, 2015.

Congratulations to Yves ROUDIER, Assistant-Professor in the Department "Networking and Security" for his HDR (french appellation for "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches") defended on December 11th, 2015, on the following subject of "Advances in the Design and Engineering of Secure Distributed Systems".

The Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches "sanctions the recognition of the high scientific level of the candidate, the original character of his approach in a field of science, its ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad science or technology and its capacity to supervise young researchers. "

Czech Technical University in Prague has joined EURECOM's consortium as academic partner

During our last Assembly of Members held on December 3rd, 2015, the Czech Technical University (CTU) officially became the 7th academic partner of EURECOM. This partnership, sign of openness towards Central Europe, will lead to increased international collaboration in communication systems and information technology. Established in 1707, the CTU is one of the oldest and most important universities in Europe. With eight faculties among whom "Electrical Engineering (FEE)" and "Transportation Science", the EURECOM-CTU collaboration could materialize particularly in the areas of Security, 5G and Data Science. This agreement will give the opportunity to more than 22,000 students to integrate the EURECOM's Masters programs.

It is with their paper "IoT device management framework for smart home scenarios" that Soumya Kanti Datta and Christian Bonnet of the Mobile Communications Department, received the 3rd prize IEEE GCCE 2015 Excellent Paper Award, during the 4th "Global Conference on Consumer Electronics" which was held in Osaka from 27-30 October 2015. Congratulations to the entire team!
